Wow, what a week. I mean really, who knew so much could happen in so few days? I'm doing this instead of doing my math homework because I feel like I'm going to fall asleep, and when I feel like I'm going to fall asleep, I don't get much math homework done. Oh also, because you need to know this, I'm rather upset at my mascara, because it's like falling apart and it doesn't even feel like I'm wearing any mascara at all. I wish I hadn't washed my other kind.
Reading Fahrenheit 451 in class has gotten me thinking. What are the point of books anyway? You know at first I was like, it's to be entertained, it's because we want to feel a connection, it's because we want to learn, but you know what? Most of all it's so that our lives seem a little less sucky. We use books as a way to get out of our lives. Have you ever noticed that the people who don't really like to read are the people who already have wonderful, exciting lives? Perhaps not the wonderful part, but at least the exciting part is true. Of course, then the people whose lives are pretty boring (c'est moi) read quite a few books. My conclusion for this statement is that we read books to make ourselves dream. We daydream to make ourselves have hope. We need hope so we can continue moving on in our meager existence. Girls dream of their prince charming (is prince charming a proper noun? Because it kind of seems like a general kind of prince) is going to come to them, and they think of all the wonderful ways that he could ask us out or whatever. Guys, I don't want to know what you daydream about. The point is though, that even when we think that we are totally seperable from our dreams and ideas, we're obviously not. We know, way deep down, that half the stuff we think about isn't ever going to happen. This is kind of depressing, but at the same time, we can take it as something more. We can change ourselves to make those dreams come true, or we can just accept it. The books are good no matter what, even if the book could be written based on your life. "Things are tough all over," but books help us move on.
Hurrm. That didn't turn out the way I originally intended. Of course, I'm not sure what I originally intended it to turn out as.
I just thought I would put this in here for kicks, because it's one of my favorite scenes from Watchmen, the comic book, not the movie. It's completely random, but I love Walter Kovacs. He would still scare the crap out of me if I ever met him...(Yes, I am aware he is a fictional character). I typed it out in the traditional comic book style, all caps with a few random bolded words. Apparently there aren't any randomly bolded words in this passage however. Too bad. I think it's quite funny.
Newstand Man: OH. GOOD AFTERNOON, SIR.
Sign Guy: GOOD AFTERNOON. IS IT HERE YET?
Newstand Man: HUH? OH! YOUR COPY O' THE NEW FRONTIERSMAN! SURE IT'S HERE. I
KEEP IT FOR YA EVERY DAY, DON'T I? HOW'S THE ENNA THE WORLD COMIN' ALONG?
Sign Guy: IT'LL HAPPEN TODAY. I'VE SEEN SIGNS. NATIONAL EXAMINER REPORTED A TWO-HEADED CAT BORN IN QUEENS. TODAY FOR CERTAIN. YOU'LL KEEP MY PAPER FOR ME TOMORROW?
Newstand Man: UHHH. SURE. SURE I WILL. NO SWEAT. HAVE A NICE DAY.
Sign guy leaves and Newstand Man sits down to drink his coffee.
Sign guy is seen walking back.
Sign guy taps Newstand Man on shoulder: YOU WON'T FORGET?
Newstand Man : ~~FPFFF~~ Spews coffee

Today For Certain
I just saw something that made me rather angry. On that Shelfari website, there was an ad on the side that said, "Get dark knight ringtones!" and I was like, "oh cool, the soundtrack on your phone!" But you know what? They didn't even have the real song titles on there! Like, one of the tracks was "Here's my card." HELLO??? That's not even one of the songs on the soundtrack! I know it's not a legitimate website, but still! You would think they would make a good effort to try and conceal that fact. But whatever. I'm so touchy about my music...
In conjunction with last week's entry, I figured it was only fair to talk about the days when all goes as planned -- and more. Yeah, there are, in fact, days like that. Everything goes perfectly well and then it even gets better. But there are also the days that are just okay. I don't particularly mind those, because those make up the majority of a person's life.
The really special days are the ones when something really little happens, and it completely changes your mood. It can be big things I suppose, like acing an end of level, or getting your braces off or something. That's pretty sweet. But what's really more exciting is when one little insignificant thing totally changes your day. Someone says hi and gives you a smile when you haven't talked to them in a little while. You see someone at the grocery store that you haven't seen in a long time. An e-mail from someone (or from something) that you weren't expecting comes. Those are the best days, without a doubt.
Going along with last week's procrastination theme, I just spent about twenty minutes attempting to brush a Barbie's hair. I heard a very interesting thing about Barbies. Apparantly, in Germany, or someplace like it, there was a doll directed at grown men, so they could, shall we say, fulfill their wants with them, for lack of a better word. But this lady from America, the founder of Mattel, decides to go over to Switzerland and sees one of these dolls. She thought it would be perfect for her daughter, who was like 8-12. I can't remember the exact age. So this lady brought these adult dolls back to her daughter because all they had to play with were dolls that were made out of paper or fabric, and they didn't show the adult female form. So this lady decided to make Barbies and it all went downhill from there. Speaking of Barbie...
Anyway, little did that lady know, She was helping girls all over the world feel a little worse about their bodies.
I just got Watchmen, like bought it, and I'm very excited. Yeah, I've read it before, but now I get to read it over and over (and over) again!!!

Tell Me, Would All Of This Be Greatly Benefited By An Oil Refinery Or A Shopping Mall?
Hello, Hello, Hello, Homies!!!
Call me Princess Procrastination because that is my most awesome talent. I'm not even kidding either. Last night, when I was supposed to be doing my literary analysis, I was just messing around. I didn't really even get down to it until around 10:30 last night. Yeah, it was due today, and I had all weekend to work on it, but that doesn't mean I would do it. In fact, exactly the opposite. The more time I have to do something, the longer I procrastinate on it. I've been trying really hard not to do that as much lately, but it doesn't really seem to be working. I'm getting a little bit better about it, but not as much as I would like. Like I was looking at sparknotes.com so I could remember all of the characters names from Great Expectations (the name of Herbert was eluding me) and they have a freaking procrastination link. Of course I had to click on it and go to some other page just to read how to get an extension set to a cartoon. Yeah, that was some time well spent. I have the worst time not procrastinating.
For instance, I didn't memorize my lines for the french play until last night, and those were also today. At least that went well. Oh, I didn't actually practice the song that Kati and I were going to play until last night, and that turned out okay too. It seems like things work out better for me if I do them at the last minute. I mean, I actually worked hard to stay on track and finish Great Expectations on time, and look where that got me! I got a 70 on that AR test. I honestly don't know what I did wrong.
Another procrastination I have done just today, instead of doing my math and geography homework, was making a quiz. Here's the link if you have a cat and like Pokemon. I guess even if you don't really know about Pokemon this quiz could still be kind of fun. I guess.Yeah, I was kind of procrastinating really bad today. Oh another thing that should be considered procrastination: writing a blog before I've finished all of my other homework.
Question: Why are people so obsessed with Chuck Norris? He's not even cool.
Ha, well that wasn't random. The weirdest thing happened today, and it bears repeating because it was one of those things where it's like, the day is going so well and you're so close to getting through the entire day, and then something completely ruins it for you. Those are the worst when it happens like 1st period, and then you feel like you're going to cry your eyes out the rest of the day. Actually you know what, never mind. I think I've said it to enough people that they'll know what I'm talking about. It was just really weird.
It's kind of been bugging me lately, but I've been noticing that I begin a lot of my sentences with an introduction sentence. Like what I just did in that last sentence. My brain starts doing something when I'm writing something, and then it can't stop. Last night it was an overuse of the word "essentially." That wasn't bugging me AT ALL. I had to keep finding synonyms for it. Anyway, (there, I did it twice just now) I don't know why I do that.
HAHA xoxo (little xs and os are cuter I think...)

Hm, Never Disposed of Garbage with Toilet Before. Must Remember.
AH! I finally saw Watchmen, and surprisingly, it was better than I expected it to be. This week I'm just going to write a review of the movie, and most of you probably won't ever see it because it's rated R, (and for good reason, no thanks to the Comedian) and also because you probably think it's stupid. Well, I don't think it's stupid. Alan Moore writes such memorable books I can't see anyone not liking them. Okay, scratch that. My mom would hate that book. But for the most part, people would generally like Watchmen... At least if you're like me.
I'll start out with a review of the different characters, then I'll take a stab at the general idea. Oh, and I'll review the soundtrack too.
Laurie/Silk Spectre II-- We'll start with the bad. The actress who played Laurie, who was not my favorite character in the book anyway, really butchered her in the movie. She was a worse actress than Kirsten Dunst in Spiderman 3. Now that's saying something. It looked like she was reading the script for the first time, and just putting in whatever she thought would be a good display of emotions. Malin Akerman looked like she was kind of trying, but it didn't really work that well in the movie. The other actors were much better.
Jon/Dr. Manhattan-- My dad didn't particularly like Billy Crudup in the movie because he didn't picture Jon that way in the book, but I thought he was perfect for the role. He acted the way I expected him to, and when he was still Jon he was pretty darn good. Not to mention cute. tee hee.
Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias-- He was okay. Matthew Goode was kind of blank the entire movie, but I think that's how Veidt would have been anyway, so I guess they did a pretty good job. He could have done a little better job and displayed some more emotion.
Walter Kovacs/Rorschach-- When I first went into the theater I was a little worried I wasn't going to like Rorschach very much (he is my favorite character in the book). But guess what! Jackie Earle Haley did a great job. At some times I think he could have displayed less emotion (because that's just how Walt- I mean, Rorschach is). There were scenes when it looked exactly like the comic book because Haley is so identical to Rorschach in the novel. He really creeped me out, so thumbs up to him!
Edward Blake/The Comedian-- Yes, yes, I know. Everyone loves Jeffrey Dean Morgan from Gray's Anatomy. I'm sorry to say it, but he was the best actor of the movie. He really nailed his part, but I can't say I liked him. Edward Blake is a you know what.
Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl II-- Overall, Patrick Wilson did a pretty good job too. It was weird to see him in the scenes with Laurie, only he looked natural and she did not. Kind of an odd combination. Overall, Wilson did a pretty good job here too.
Oh well, looks like we're done with most of the main characters. Before I forget I should probably mention that I have to stay for the entire credits (if someone is going to make a movie and work so hard, I should be able to sit 5 minutes longer and watch their name), meanwhile I look for the most horrible part you could have been cast. In this particular movie, it was "Aggressive Hooker." In the Dark Knight, "Fat Thug". But that's just me, there are probably worse parts out there.
Overall, the movie was pretty good. The reviews I heard at first said that the movie was almost identical to the comic book, so I wasn't expecting much to change. Surprising to me, they changed a lot of things, and most of the time it was to make the scene a little bit gorier. The movie itself was pretty amazing, especially the scenes on Mars. I was a little bit upset about some of the changes they made, and they left out a lot of the really interesting stuff in the comic book, er, graphic novel. I would give the movie a 7-8 out of 10. The plot of the story is incredible, and that alone deserves a ten. The way they did some scenes were kind of weird, but for the most part it was pretty good. The Dark Knight is still better though, sorry to say.
The soundtrack is actually kind of boring. There are a few good songs, but most of them are kind of background noise, to accent what's going on in the movie, and Tyler Bates doesn't seem to be able to make the music stand alone but stand with the movie too. My favorite song is the Comedian's theme, which makes me kind of mad, but it's very good. My first impression listening to the album was a cross between The Dark Knight, composed by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, and also Revenge of the Sith, composed by John Williams. This is in reference to the score, not the soundtrack. I probably should have clarified that at the beginning.
So there's my review(s), however you would like to classify them (as one or as three seperate reviews).
I want to see Watchmen again.... : (

This City Is Afraid Of Me
I couldn't decide if I wanted to write a blog now, or wait until Saturday when I saw Watchmen. As you might have guesssed, I decided to write the blog now, and write about Watchmen next week. Aren't you all just thrilled?
Alrighty, I was in my mom's car the other day and we were going to Smith's. There is this Watchmen commercial and they use the Smashing Pumpkins song "The end is the beginning of the end" on this commercial. That also happens to be the song on my blog right now. Anyway, listen to that and then listen to this David Byrne song that my mom was listening to. The drum beats sound exactly the same only the Smashing Pumpkins one is slower. I guess you only really have to listen to the first little bit of it, but oh well. Oh yeah, here's THE LINK!!!
Ha ha ha, overdramatic. I am so bad at memorizing things. If you would like to know how I got from the overdramatic idea to the being bad at memorizing things, follow this chain. Overdramatic reminded me of drama which reminded me of Kati whose in drama which reminded me of things you do in drama like memorize things which reminded me of french plays that I haven't memorized the lines to yet, which also reminded me of Shakespeare parts that I haven't memorized all the way through yet. Luckily I have some pretty sweet skills under stress for memorizing things. I guess the freakout mode should be coming up pretty soon.
Holy cow, the most amazing thing has happened. The other day I went to take the recycling with my father, and on the way back we stopped at Tasty's to get a donut. From that point we noticed that there is no a heebeegeebeez right across the street from the Starbuck's that's across the street from the Tasty's that we were at. So we were like, yeah, maybe we'll go in there. They might have some comics. Well, they do which is amazing because I don't have to go to Salt Lake to get them anymore. That's not the cool thing though. The cool thing is this.
When I was younger, (I was going to say little, but I was in like 4th grade) I went to this place to play Pokemon cards. Yeah, cheesy I know, but it was way fun, and if they still did that, I would totally go. This place was called Endzone. One day we drove down to Endzone, (it was kind of a long drive when we used to live in Ogden) and we found out that they were closed. That was so sad for me, because that was my favorite thing to do on Thursday nights. So here I am, five years later, and I'm driving around on Saturday with my mom to find this lighting store in Clearfield. We stopped at Grounds for Coffee, where my mom explained to me why they called it "Grounds for Coffee." Don't ask me why they call it that, because I still don't know. Anyway, so we set off again and we drove past, you guessed it, Endzone! They had moved their store to Clearfield so we went in there to take a look around, and it brought back all these memories from my childhood. Oh, and did I mention, they have comics too! It was so weird finding two comic book stores in one weekend, and they were both way closer than Salt Lake City.
So anyway, that's my life in a nutshell right now. I'M SO EXCITED FOR WATCHMEN! Rorschach is on my desktop right now...
